Passionate About Environmentally Sustainable Food Systems, Soil Health and Soil Carbon

I completed my BSc from McMaster University in Life Science with a minor in biology. This lead me to become interested in ecosystem scale ecology and biogeochemical cycles. I then moved to my MSc at the University of Toronto in Earth Science under the supervision of Sarah Finkelstein. During my MSc, I focused on topics dealing with peatland paleoecology and paleoclimate reconstructions for peatlands in the Hudson Bay Lowlands of Northern Ontario.

Moving to my PhD at the University of Guelph, I knew I wanted to focus my research on an application that could help communities and ecosystems vulnerable to a changing climate. This lead to a research project that is focused on supporting northern communities and their food systems through soil science. My current research bridges the gap between the natural science and social science to deliver information that furthers knowledge on Boreal Forest carbon dynamics under disturbance, northern agroecology and sovereign community food systems.

I am extremely passionate about science communication and using an academic platform in a collaborative way to work with groups of people with different points of view. I am interested in continuing to do research that involves soil biogeochemistry, agroecology, carbon dynamics, ecosystem resilience frameworks and response to disturbance all in a framework that supports populations at the forefront of climate change driven ecosystem degradation. I am always open to collaboration with people from various backgrounds and points of view!
